SUMMARY:Invitation to sing Bach's Christmas Oratorio
DESCRIPTION:Invitation to experienced singers to participate in Bach's Chri
stmas Oratorio on 19th December 2026 and attend rehearsals with Sterndale
Singers and Sheffield Chamber Choir. \n\nOn Saturday 19th December 2026 a
t 7.00pm the Sterndale Singers will be joining with the Sheffield Chamber
Choir and the West Riding Ensemble to perform one of Bach’s greatest wor
ks\, the Christmas Oratorio\, directed by Robert Webb.\n\nAs this work has
not been performed in Sheffield for some time\, we thought it would be ni
ce to offer experienced singers the opportunity to participate. In order t
o make the concert a more manageable length\, we will be cutting Part Four
and a few movements from Part Five.\n\nHowever\, this is not just a “co
me and sing” invitation. We would expect singers to be able to join us f
or at least nine rehearsals in order to be properly prepared for the perfo
rmance. As both choirs participating are auditioned\, there will be a shor
t informal audition for singers wanting to take part.\n\nRehearsals take p
lace on Monday evenings from 7.30pm to 9.30pm in the Church Hall at Holy T
rinity Church\, Millhouses from Monday 7th September. There will also be a
rehearsal on the afternoon of the concert.\n\nThere will be a participati
on fee of £25.\n\nWe will be using the Barenreiter edition and this will
be available to hire is you do not have your own copy. Places are limited\
, so early application is advised.\n\nTo register your interest please cli
ck here:\nhttps://forms.gle/Vf9LyxYTdTC6LLPn6\n\nIf you have any questions
