On Saturday 19th December 2026 at 7.00pm the Sterndale Singers will be joining with the Sheffield Chamber Choir and the West Riding Ensemble to perform one of Bach’s greatest works, the Christmas Oratorio, directed by Robert Webb.
As this work has not been performed in Sheffield for some time, we thought it would be nice to offer experienced singers the opportunity to participate. In order to make the concert a more manageable length, we will be cutting Part Four and a few movements from Part Five.
However, this is not just a “come and sing” invitation. We would expect singers to be able to join us for at least nine rehearsals in order to be properly prepared for the performance. As both choirs participating are auditioned, there will be a short informal audition for singers wanting to take part.
Rehearsals take place on Monday evenings from 7.30pm to 9.30pm in the Church Hall at Holy Trinity Church, Millhouses from Monday 7th September. There will also be a rehearsal on the afternoon of the concert.
There will be a participation fee of £25.
We will be using the Barenreiter edition and this will be available to hire is you do not have your own copy. Places are limited, so early application is advised.
